This is the highest honor presented by the Western Mountain Region. The Silver Medal recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the institute, the profession and the citizens of the Western Mountain Region, their community, and who has transcended local boundaries in making these contributions.
Award: A certificate and silver medal.
Eligibility: Any member of the Western Mountain Region of The American Institute of Architects who has preformed their contributions within, but not limited to the boundaries of the Western Mountain Region.
Criteria: The Award may be given for a single outstanding achievement, or for a record of continuing service toward the enhancement of humankind.. Only one Silver Medal is awarded in any given year; the jury may choose not to award a Silver Medal in any given year.
Submittal Requirements: All submittals shall be in CD format and three (3) copies submitted. All letters must be in .pdf format and all images must be .jpeg format. The CD shall be organized with the following information:
- Nomination Sheet: Cover Page
- Biographical Data Sheet: Maximum of2 pages.
- Statement of Contributions: Information should be filled out carefully, as this is the primary information the jury will study. Maximum of 4 2 pages.
- Photographs: Images shall be black & white or colored. Drawings may be submitted as images. No more than 20 images may be submitted. Please identify the photo or drawing on the actual image.
- Other information: Submit additional or alternative information as appropriate to convey the accomplishments of the nominee.
- Letters of recommendation: A minimum of 3 letters of recommendation and no more than 5 shall be submitted in support of the nominees submission.
The Western Mountain Region Architectural Firm of the Year
This award recognizes the continuing collaboration among individuals in a firm who have produced distinguished architecture over a period of at least 10 years, and have made significant contributions to the institute, the profession and their community, and have transcended their local boundaries in making these contributions.
Award: Certificate
Eligibility: Any firm whose principal, or eligible principals, are members of the Western Mountain Region Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and can demonstrate a history of producing distinguished architecture over a period of 10 years. The entrant shall have been awarded firm of the year from their respective state or local chapter in any year prior to submission for this award. Only one award shall be made in any year, and the jury may elect not to present an award in this category.

The Western Mountain Region Award of Distinction
This award recognizes those individuals and organizations outside the AIA membership category of Architect, who have recorded, illustrated or contributed to a better understanding and interpretation of awareness of architecture in the Western Mountain Region.
Award: Certificate
Eligibility: Non-Architect.
Submittal Requirements: All submittals shall be in CD format and three (3) copies submitted. All letters must be in .pdf format and all images must be in .jpeg format. The CD shall be organized with the following information:
- Nomination Sheet: Cover sheet
- Biographical Data Sheet: Maximum 2 pages
- Statement of Contributions: Information should be filled out carefully as this is the primary information the jury will study. Maximum of 5 pages.
- Graphic Materials: Submit if desired, photographs, drawings, or visual material on CD to support the accomplishments of the nominee.
- Letters of Recommendation: A minimum of 3 letters of recommendation and no more than 5 shall be submitted in support of the nominee’s submission.
The Western Mountain Region Young Architect Award
This award recognizes those individuals who, at an early stage of their architectural career, have shown exceptional leadership in design, education and/or service to the profession.
Award: Certificate
Eligibility: This category includes members of the American Institute of Architects who have been licensed to practice architecture less than 10 years. The term “young architect” has no reference to the age of the nominee. Only one award shall be made in any year, and the jury may elect not to present an award in this category.

- Biographical Data Sheet: Maximum of 4 2 pages
- Statement of Contribution: Information should be filled out carefully, as this is the primary material the jury will. Maximum 4 2 pages.
- Photographs: Images shall be black & white or colored. Drawings may be submitted as images. No more than 20 images may be submitted. Please identify the photo or drawing on the actual image.
- Other Information: Submit additional or alternate information as appropriate to convey the accomplishments of the nominee.

The Western Mountain Region Twenty-Five year Award
This award recognizes the built structure that has most influenced design and lifestyle in the Western Mountain Region.
Award: Certificate
Eligibility: Only structures located anywhere in the Western Mountain Region that were built at least twenty five years from the date of their submittal and are still in active use today are eligible for nomination in this category.
Submittal Requirements: All submittals shall be in CD format and three (3) copies submitted. All letters must be in .pdf format and all images must be in .jpeg format. The CD shall be organized with the following information:
- Nomination Sheet: Cover page
- Biographical Data Sheets: Maximum 2 pages
- Statement of contribution and significance of the structure: Information should be filled out in detail, as this is the primary material the jury will use in the evaluation of the submittal. Verification of age and a written description of why this structure is of significance to the WMR.
- Photographs: Images shall be black & white or colored. Drawings may be submitted as images. No more than 20 images may be submitted. Please identify the photo or drawing on the actual image.
- Other Information: Submit additional or alternate information as appropriate to convey the accomplishments of the nominee.
- Letters of recommendation: A minimum of 1 letter of recommendation and no more than 3 shall be submitted in support of the submission.
